cake balls, cherry wine, and good times

This last weekend we went to my Grandparents house as well as my Aunt & Uncle's house to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday as well as my Grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary!  Can you believe it...SIXTY years!

Before we left I decided that I would just pack my own lunch and dinner for Saturday because I had no idea what was on the menu and I didn't want to ruin my progress just because I wasn't prepared.  I am used to bringing my own meals to my parent's house so I knew they wouldn't think twice about it but I was a little worried about having to field some questions from other relatives.  I talked to a good friend and she reminded me that even if they did ask me questions it wouldn't be so bad especially since they all noticed how great I looked a few weeks ago at my cousin's wedding.

So I packed up my cooler with 2 different salads.  One topped with 3 hard boiled eggs with a lemon and olive oil dressing and the other salad was topped with chicken and blue cheese dressing.  I did great over lunch and ate my own salad while I watched people devour chicken salad croissant sandwiches and my Grandma's delicious assortment of desserts which included mini cheesecakes, red velvet cake balls, chocolate truffles, mini bite sized pecan pies, etc.  You get the hint right?

After hanging out all afternoon we went over to my aunt and uncle's house where they had BBQ chicken, fruit, potato salad, and dammit my grandma brought her extra dessert!  LOL!  So not only did I have to sit through lunch watching people eat this goodness but I had to watch during dinner as well.

I CAVED. :(  I ate a couple of cake balls, one of her mini desserts, and I had a small piece of white cake for their anniversary.  I seriously didn't have any self control whatsoever.  My aunt also had some homemade cherry wine from their farm and OMG it was fantastic!  I have never had homemade wine before but um yeah, pretty much sooooo good!

Not all is lost though because well this is life and I just have to deal with it.  I refuse to beat myself up about it and this won't kill me at all.  Did it set me back a little?  Sure it did but it isn't the end of the world and I got up the next morning and made the decision to move on.  I think what helped the most is that I couldn't weigh in yesterday after the cake and this morning I was lucky enough to see the same number I saw when I woke up Saturday morning.  Phew!  179.4 so i didn't lose anything except a little time.

To make up for eating cake I decided to do a mini steak day and I ate a 7.25oz filet mignon topped with a tablespoon of butter for dinner.  It was heaven and well it seemed to do the trick!

We had a blast playing with the kids, the dogs, and visiting their cow Howie.  LOL!  It was a great night sitting around the fire with people playing horseshoes and card games in the background.  We had so much fun celebrating my wonderful Grandparents and including eating cake I still had a fantastic weekend.  Life is good.
