I walked 3.47 miles and did 20 minutes of strength training on my arms. I wasn't sure how I was going to start out with the walk so I decided to set the treadmill at 2.5mph for 5 minutes, then 3.0 for another 5 minutes and then finally stopped at 3.5mph. About 30 minutes in (I am guessing I cover the time with a towel) I bumped it up to 3.7mph and finished out the 60 minutes of walking.
I will admit that I could have done more, I could have walked faster but it was a start and today I plan on pushing myself that much harder. I need to get in shape and the harder I push myself the faster I will get there and the better I will feel.
I was pretty hungry about 30 minutes after the workout but since I walked after I ate breakfast, I was able to eat lunch and curb most of that hunger. I do wish I was done losing weight because it would be so much easier to workout when I am able to eat more food to maintain my weight than it is to exercise on 1400-1500 calories. It will take a lot of discipline but at this point that is what I need and I am excited about the challenge.
My challenge is to get up to 4 miles in one hour by the end of the first 2 weeks. Once I master the 4mph, then I am thinking about starting the Couch to 5k Program in addition to the 1 hour of walking that I will do each day. I don't get much exercise on my own without scheduling it so I need to get in my 10,000 steps as well as a good workout and I think this is a good solution. Another way to add in some steps is taking my dogs for walks during the day instead of playing with them in the backyard. It will get them out and walking and it will be awesome for all of us!
